5 Ingredient Recipes

All of us cooks need a break once in a while too. These five ingredient recipes area great way to take a break and still feed the family.




Slow Cooker Apple Cider Pulled Chicken


  1. 2 medium apples (such as honeycrisp or fuji) cored and chopped

  2. 1 medium yellow onion, very thinly sliced

  3. 1 tsp kosher salt

  4. 1 tsp granulated garlic powder

  5. 3/4 cup unsweetened apple cider, divided or apple juice if you prefer


  1. The apples and onions in the base of a slow cooker. Sprinkle with 1/2 tsp salt, tossing to combine

  2. Sprinkle both sides of the chicken with additional 1/2 salt and garlic powder

  3. Place the chicken on top of apple and onion mixture. Pour 1/2 cup apple cider. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours, or until chicken is cooked through.

  4. Remove the chicken to a cutting board. Shred with two forks, then place back in the slow cooker, add the remaining 1/4 cup apple cider. stir. Add additional salt or apple cider to taste.

  5. Serve the apple cider chicken over beans,quinoa, baked sweet potato or on a rolls with apple slaw.


Quick Apple Slaw


2 apples, cored and lightly sliced or grated.

1 scallion (white and green parts), thinly sliced

1 small Napa or green cabbage, sliced into thin shreds (about 4 cups)

1 tbsp olive oil

1/4 tsp salt

pepper optional


Combine all ingredients in a bowl and allow to sit 5 minutes, or more for the flavors to combine and the cabbage to wilt.




Slow Cooker Hawaiian Pork Chops


  1. package pork chops

  2. 20 oz. can pineapple chunks

  3. 1 tbsp soy sauce

  4. 1/4 cup brown sugar

  5. 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes




Pour the can of pineapples in the bottom of slow cooker. Mix in sugar,soy sauce and red pepper flakes. Nestle the pork chops on top of the pineapple. Season with salt and pepper. Cook on low 6-8 hours.




5 Ingredient Beef Satays


  1. 1 pound flank steak

  2. 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce

  3. 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

  4. 1 tbsp minced garlic

  5. 1 tbsp honey

Sweet chili sauce, for serving (optional)

Thinly slice the steak across the grain so that each slice is 1/4 inch thick.


Put a resealable plastic bag in a bowl. Add the soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic and honey to the bag. Whisking to combine. Add the steak to the bag, push out any air and seal the bag. Thoroughly coat the steak. Put the bag in refrigerator for a minimum of 30 minutes and up to


Thread each slice o steak onto a skewer. Preheat grill or grill pan, brush lightly with olive oil. Place skewers on grill, cook for 3 minutes on one side, flip over and cook other side for 2 minutes.




Gooey Strawberry Cake Mix Brownies


  1. Strawberry cake mix.

  2. unsalted butter

  3. egg

  4. white chocolate chips

  5. Sweetened condensed milk

Beat the butter until smooth and creamy. Then beat in the cake mix and egg. The batter will be very thick, but keep beating until it goes from pea-sized crumbles to a tacky, thick dough.

Turn half the batter into a 9x9 inch baking dish. Sprinkle with white chocolate chips. Drizzle about 60 percent of the can of sweetened condensed milk over the white chocolate later (eyeball it) then dot remaining dough over top. Bake the strawberry brownies until the edges are set and the center is mostly set.




Starbucks's Caramel Frappuccino Copy Cat


  1. 2 cups ice

  2. 1 cup strong coffee, cooled

  3. 1 cup low-fat milk

  4. 1/3 cup caramel

  5. 3 Tbsp white sugar

Blend ice ,coffee, caramel sauce and sugar together in a blender on high until smooth. Pour into two 16 oz. glasses.
